George Elbert Burr (1859-1939), an American printmaker and painter best known for his etchings depicting the mountaineous regions of the American West. His illustrations were published in Harper’s, Scribner’s Magazine, Frank Leslie’s Weekly, and The Cosmopolitan as well an illustrative catalog through the Metropolitan Museum of Art featuring etchings of thousands of artifacts. For the benefit of his health, he moved to Denver and produced his most well known work influenced by the Rocky Mountains and then later to Phoenix Arizona. Burr’s work is included in collections at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the British Museum, the French National Print Collection, Luxembourg Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Northern Arizona, and the Congressional Library in Washington DC. Original etching is presented under glass, matting, and silver-tone wooden frame. Artist has hand written title and signature to the lower left-hand corner of print. Iniatials GB are also signed in the plate. Hang ready. Frame measures 14” x 15.5” x 1.10” (WxHxD).
