Sale Price:$475.00 Original Price:$950.00
Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) was a German artist working in mediums of painting, printmaking, and sculpture. In 1919 Kollwitz was appointed as a professor and first woman to hold the position at the Prussian Academy of Arts. She was later forced to resign in 1933 by the Nazi government and her work was removed from museums although one of her works of art was used by the Nazis for propaganda. After being evacuated from Berlin in 1943, here home was bombed destroying drawings, prints, and documents. Kollwitz died 16 days before the end of WWII. Original etching titled “Sturm” comes from her series “A Weber Rebellion” depicting her most famous subject matter based on the effects of poverty, hunger, and war of the working class. Her realistic work depicts a scene that could come straight out of a modern day graphic novel. Alexander von der Becke, Muenchen-20 blind stamp is present to the lower right-hand corner, no hand-signed signature present/visible. Etching is presented under glass, matting, and silver-tone wooden frame. Hang ready. Frame measures 17.5” x 15.5” x 2” (WxHxD).
